A HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES
(1) GENERAL MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
(a) Candidates must possess the minimum entry requirements for the
National Diploma (ND) programme in the specific field.
(b) They must possess the National Diploma of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba or the equivalent from recognized institutions in the appropriate
disciplines with a minimum of Lower Credit Pass (CGPA of 2.50).
(c) They must have by the expected date of admission, completed a
minimum of twelve (12) calender months post National Diploma Industrial Work Experience relevant to their field of study.
(d) Candidates with CGPA below 2.50 must have completed a minimum of
two years post ND cognate work experience.
(2) AVAILABLE PROGRAMMES AND SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR HND MORNING
(a) SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY (SBMT)
(i) Accountancy
(ii) Banking and Finance
(iii) Business Administration and Management
(iv) Marketing
(v) Office Technology and Management – Formerly Secretarial Studies
(vi) Public Administration
(b) SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY (SSET)
HND COMPUTER SCIENCE
At least lower credit pass in National Diploma in Computer Science obtained from a recognized institution with an accredited Computer Science programme.
Candidates with CGPA below 2.50 must have completed a minimum of two years post ND cognate work experience.
(c) HND SCIENCE LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE PROGRAMMES
(i) HND Biology/Microbiology
(ii) HND Chemistry/Biochemistry
(iii) HND Physics with Electronics
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR HND SCIENCE LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMMES
Candidates must possess the National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba or the equivalent from recognized institutions
Candidates must have, by the expected date of admission completed a minimum of twelve (12) calendar months post National Diploma Industrial work experience relevant to their field of study.
Candidates with CGPA below 2.50 must have completed a minimum of two years post ND cognate work experience.
(d) HND STATISTICS
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
At least a lower credit level pass in National Diploma in Statistics obtained from an accredited Statistics programme is required. Applicants must have done a minimum of one or two years post National Diploma Industrial Attachment in the relevant field of study.
B NATIONAL DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES
(1) GENERAL MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
(a) Candidates with one or two of the following certificates may be considered for admission into the National Diploma programme:
(b) SSCE/NECO/NABTEB/GCE O’L/TC II with credit level passes in five subjects relevant to the programme obtained at not more than two sittings.
(c) A pass at the final examination of Pre-Science and Technology of the Polytechnic.
(2) AVAILABLE PROGRAMMES AND SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR
ND MORNING
(a) SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY (SBMT)

(b) MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Credit level passes in English Language, Mathematics and any three of the following subjects: Economics, Commerce, Geography, Business Methods, Principles of Accounts, Literature in English, History, Government, Statistics and Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Agric. Science.
* Social Studies could be accepted in place of Government, History and Geography for candidates with NABTEB results.
(3) DEPARTMENT OF OFFICE TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT – FORMERLY SECRETARIAL STUDIES
(a) MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Credit level passes in English Language and any four from the following: Business Methods, Economics, Principles of Accounts, Geography, Literature in English, Commerce, Government/History, Typewriting, Secretarial Duties, Office Practice, Mathematics, Christian Religious Knowledge, French/Igbo, Biology/Agric. Science/ Physics/Chemistry.
(4) SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY (SSET) AVAILABLE PROGRAMMES
(i) Computer Science
(ii) Science Laboratory Technology
(iii) Statistics
(a) ND COMPUTER SCIENCE
Five credit level passes in GCE O’level / NABTEB/SSCE/NECO in not more
than two sittings or six credit level passes in an NBTE recognized Pre-Science and Technology course. The passes must include Mathematics, Physics, English Language and any two of the following subjects:
(i) Additional/Further Mathematics
(ii) Biology/Agric Science
(iii) Chemistry
(iv) Economics/Commerce
(v) Food and Nutrition/Home Management
(vi) Geography/Accounting
(vii) Government/History/Social Studies

(b) ND STATISTICS
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Credit level passes in Mathematics and any four of the following subjects:
Statistics, Geography, Biology/Health Science, Agricultural Science, Food and Nutrition, Additional/Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Economics/Commerce, English Language/Government/ Accounting, General Science.
A pass in English Language is required.
(c) ND SCIENCE LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Five credit level passes in GCE O/L/SSCE/NABTEB/NECO in not more
than two sittings. The subjects must include Mathematics, English
Language and any three of the following:
(ii) Biology/Agricultural Science

(iii) Physics.
Applicants must possess at least a pass in Biology.

(vi) Religious Knowledge
(vii) Technical Drawing/Art/Building/Engineering Drawing
At least a pass in English Language is compulsory. A pass in Technical Drawing will be an advantage.
(b) NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN BUILDING TECHNOLOGY
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Credit level passes in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry and any three of the following:

At least a pass in English Language is compulsory.
(f) NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN URBAN AND REGIONAL PLANNING
Credit level passes in Mathematics and four other subjects from the following:
(i) Agricultural Science
(ii) Art/Technical Drawing
(iii) Biology
(iv) Chemistry
(v) Economics
(vi) Geography
(vii) Government/History
(viii) Physics
(ix) Statistics
One of the three subjects must be a basic science subject. At least a pass in English Language is compulsory.
C PRE-SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR PRE-SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
(a) GCE O/L/SSCE/NECO/NABTEB – with passes in English Language,
Mathematics and three subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Biology or all the three science subjects, depending on the National Diploma programme into which the applicant will finally enroll.
(b) National Technical Certificate (NTC) with passes in trade and four relevant
academic subjects :– English Language, Mathematics, Physics/Chemistry and one of the following: Technical/Engineering Drawing, General Metalwork, General Woodwork, etc.
(c) Candidates who have successfully completed the NBTE’s recognized Pre-Science and Technology course may be admitted into the Programme.
D DURATION
The duration of the programmes is as follows:
(1) Higher National Dipoma – 4 Semesters
(2) National Diploma – 4 Semesters
(3) Pre-Science and Technology – 2 Semesters
